Miguel’s roommate in college was Jessica’s brother. Jessica was visiting her brother at Marist college and Miguel asked Jessica on a date after getting her brother’s permission. Their first date was at a Tapas restaurant in the city. Jessica and Miguel dated for seven years.
Here are Jessica’s own words describing their engagement….
“I had just been away on a medical mission in Haiti and had to work the next few days after I had gotten back. He surprised the heck out of me by being in my house when I came home from work on my last night of the work week. We didn’t live together at that time and he had parked around the block so I wouldn’t see his car so I screamed bloody murder when I walked into my dark house to a man saying hello and walking towards me out of the shadows…until my brain registered it was him. He had decorated with candles and rose petals everywhere. He cooked me my favorite dinner and told me he had a surprise…at which point he brought out cannoli dip aka not a diamond ring lol. After dinner he asked me to make him a drink in his favorite cup. I started pouring his drink and he started shaking his head and brought me back to the cabinet I had gotten the cup from. The ring box was sitting where the mug had been, it had been hidden under the mug and I had totally missed it because I was so focused on making him a good drink since he had come straight from working an overnight tour and then an overtime tour on no sleep and had made me an amazing dinner and even decorated to make it a special date night because we hadn’t gotten to spend much time together with me being away and our crazy work schedules that week. He then took the box and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him with our dog Brady standing right by his side. It was the sweetest proposal ever and totally us!! I was so surprised!! It was March 21, 2018, the night of the random blizzard we had, so when we went outside to pop open the champagne bottle it was a beautiful snowy night and we have an adorable video of it – me still in my scrubs and Brady exploring the snow in the background.” Bride Jessica
