Words from the Bride Marissa – “Jordan and I met on a dating app in September of 2013. We got matched online one very late night and Jordan initiated the conversation instantly. We texted the whole night until we finally realized it was 3:00 in the morning. The conversation came to halt after Jordan nonchalantly revealed he had to be up for a work in only a couple of hours. After 2 weeks of talking constantly we finally set the date of Thursday, September 19 to meet up. The whole day leading up to the date we were so nervous that we did not text each other once. Around 4:15 on the 19th I got on the Long Island Railroad to head into the city where Jordan was meeting me. While on the train and almost into the city I texted Jordan thinking I was funny and told him that I had missed my train. He received the text but due to being underground on the train the follow up text saying “just kidding” did not go through. Jordan thought he was stood up and was just about to leave when I ran off the train quickly and saw him. After the shock had worn off that he had not been stood up we walked to a rooftop bar and sat for a few hours talking. Little did I know at the time that the drinks I was ordering were not part of the happy hour special and cost $16 each which we laugh about to this day. After drinks, we decided to get dinner and landed at a sushi restaurant. Jordan was trying to impress me and ordered sake. I ended up hating the sake but forced myself to drink it to not embarrass myself. After the dinner (and awful sake) the two of us walked around the city for 4+ hours talking and laughing. I had finally realized that it was 11:00 and we had been on our first date for over 6 hours. At that point Jordan walked me back to Penn Station to catch the next train. As soon as I sat down on the train I received a text that said “I had such a great time. What should we do next time?” Now every year on September 19th Jordan and I relive our first date by going to the same rooftop bar and sushi afterwards for dinner, but keeping the happy hour specials in mind.”
After 3 1/2 years of dating, Jordan proposed to Marissa. Here is how it happened in the Brides own words!
“The first Friday night of my spring break (I am a teacher) Jordan said to me “let’s go out to dinner tonight since it has been awhile.” The truth is that week I had had a head cold, felt terrible, and barely left the apartment except to go to work. After resting at home for a little bit we both started getting ready to go out to dinner close to our apartment. Jordan made reservations at a restaurant called Blend on the Water which we had never been to before. We left our apartment and it started to drizzle. I did not think much about it, but Jordan seemed to be bothered by the rain, which puzzled me at the time. We finally got to the restaurant, which was located over looking the east river and the Manhattan skyline. After enjoying amazing dinner we decided to take a walk along the water (even though it was a cold night.) We walked along the water and I kept my arms crossed to try and conserve as much warmth as possible. Jordan kept trying to hold my hand and I would respond “I love you, but I’m too cold to hold your hand.” As we continued to walk Jordan starting talking about our lives together and all that we have experienced over 3.5 years of dating. Just as we walked past the iconic Pepsi Cola sign in Long Island City we walked to a corner of the boardwalk and Jordan got down on knee and proposed. Without hesitation but with a little bit of shock I of course said yes. Quickly after Jordan said to me “some people are here to see you” I looked to my left. I saw a large group of people running down a hill screaming and cheering. My parents, sister, brother in law, and 5-year old nephew were all there and then I found out shortly that Jordan’s whole family had driven and flown in for the weekend to also surprise me. So along side my family was also Jordan’s parents, brother, sister, grandparents, and uncle. They almost toppled us over with hugs and kisses as we took pictures as a newly formed family. Once we had finished all of the pictures I found out that Jordan’s family rented a townhouse on the same street as our apartment. Everyone went back to the town house where we had food, champagne, and gifts waiting for us as our families celebrated the night away together.”
